Employee Profile - Chris Shaw

I joined PROjEN in 2001 prior to which I had been employed in the central engineering department of a manufacturing company for two years before crossing into the contracting industry for four years. In that time I had worked primarily in bulk and fine chemicals as a plant support engineer and a design/commissioning engineer.

I actually left PROjEN in 2004 to travel and carry out some voluntary work. I returned a year later to find a five million pound project I’d carried out the design prior to leaving, up and running and in beneficial use.

Role at PROjEN

Based at the office in Preston Brook I provide Process Engineering support on a wide range of projects and sites. Since joining PROjEN I’ve been involved in clients based in the bulk chemicals, food manufacture, pharmaceutical and waste industries in assignments ranging from front-end design, detailed-design and implementation to safety studies and ATEX/DSEAR projects. I am currently carrying out the pressure relief calculations to determine the modifications required to the emergency vent systems for a multi-purpose pharmaceutical plant, in-between carrying out the front end design for the replacement of the two megawatt glycol chiller system for the same plant.

Impressions of working at PROjEN

I enjoy working at PROjEN due to the wide variety of projects and the opportunity to become involved at many levels and different areas. As well as providing process engineering support I become involved in project engineering, one of my colleagues also provides a quality auditing role. There is good team work ethic with the emphasis on working with the client to achieve a successful outcome.
It’s generally a relaxed atmosphere and there are plenty of social events throughout the year with the opportunity to meet people based at client sites.
