Employee Profile - Martin Briggs

I have spent over 30 years in industry starting my career as an apprentice at BNFL, where I gained practical experience in both the maintenance and commissioning departments before leaving to join PROjEN as an EC&I designer in 1990.  I left PROjEN in 1997, having worked my way up to senior designer.  Over the next 10 years, I worked within a  variety of industries, from nuclear, pharmaceuticals, and waste water to whisky distilling. During this time I gained a detailed knowledege of the ATEX directives, providing consultancy to a  number of clients both in the UK and Ireland to achieving ATEX compliance.  In 2007,  I rejoined PROjEN as the EC&I Section Head and I am enjoying being back.

I am based at the newly refurbished PROjEN head offices in Preston Brook where my role is to co-ordinate the  EC& I, ensuring a uniform standard support for Project Managers based here, and at our client sites around the country.   The projects I get involved with are varied and interesting, and can involve anything from new build chemical plants, to energy saving projects. The varied and interesting work means there is never a dull day and that is one of the main attractions.

I have found PROjEN to be a progressive company which is always willing to invest in new technology. The management are refreshingly approachable, enthusiastic, and supportive, and are always ready to listen.   John Taylor, the Managing Director, delivers Core Briefing Sessions quarterly to share the company vision and to give a forum for new ideas. Hours are flexible around the required core hours, and training is given where required.

The atmosphere in the office is always friendly and everyone is keen to help new starters, who are put through an induction programme as soon as they join. There is a tradition in the office that cream cakes are bought when it is your birthday. With present numbers at head office this works out at about one free cream cake a week. With new people joining this can only get better, (or worse depending on how you view it).

Social outings are organised on a regular basis to encourage teamwork. These can be anything from Pub Sports Evenings to Country Walks.

The pleasant working environment has resulted in a settled and efficient team. This in turn has contributed to the increasing success of PROjEN and in a growing number of satisfied clients and longterm alliances.
