I left College in 2006, having completed a 12 month BTEC First Diploma in ICT and Business at Macclesfield College. 

Whilst on this course, I learned the basics of customising application software, presenting information and how ICT supports organisations. I also learned programming language, such as Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS which I used as part of my assessed coursework - the creation of a Computer Gaming Website for a Café. 

I had always known that I wanted a career in IT, ahead of completing the Diploma.  I had performed work experience for a Housing Association in Salford as an IT Technician which I really enjoyed.  This experience, coupled with the knowledge obtained through completing the diploma, meant that when the role of IT and Telecommunications Technician arose at PROjEN, I jumped at the chance.

The position at PROjEN initially came with a steep learning curve; I had no previous experience with a 2003 domain with XP and very limited experience of a 2000 domain and 2000 clients.  This didn’t matter however, as I was fully supported by PROjEN.  They trained me in all aspects of the role that I had no prior knowledge of.

My working day is varied and can consist of providing line support, setting up new starter e-mail accounts, creating Hunt Groups, ensuring backups run smoothly and learning new software.

I particularly enjoy being the first point of contact for ITC queries and that I am constantly learning.   In fact, I have already started to advance with the knowledge I have gained thus far and I am looking to gain A+, Server + and Network+ qualifications as well as training in Sharepoint.

PROjEN’s approach to ITC is very refreshing.  Rather than limit an individuals computer use from an admin level, PROjEN teach people how to use the system responsibly.  This trust approach is aided by PROjEN’s medium size.  Everybody knows each other, and this bodes for greater transparency and a relaxed and sociable working environment. 

I would recommend working for PROjEN, the team spirit and opportunities for advancement are second to none!
